Initial amount of liquid = 400ml
Initial percentage of alcohol = 15%
Therefore, amount of alcohol already present in the bottle = 400 x 15/100 = 4 x 15 = 60ml
Let the amount of alcohol to be added = x
(Total amount of alcohol / Total amount of liquid) x 100 = 32%
total amount of alcohol / total amount of liquid = 32 /100 = 8 / 25
(60 + x) / (400 + x) = 8 / 25
25 (60 + x) = 8 (400 + x)
1500 + 25x = 3200 + 8x
25x – 8x = 3200 – 1500
17x = 1700
x = 1700/17 = 100ml
Therefore, 100ml of alcohol is to be added.
Cross-checking:
[60 + 100 / 400 + 100] x 100 = [160/500] x 100 = 160/5 = 32%
